Reading at Home

Children will continue to follow the Little Wandle reading module in Year One; this will continue throughout the first half of the Autumn Term for most pupils as they enter Year Two. Once reading fluently, children in Year Two will progress onto reading books that are no longer fully decodable; these will be organised into coloured book bands.  A child working at the expected level by the end of Year Two should be reading books within the Gold or White Book Band at a rate of approximately 90 words per minute. Children working at a greater depth should be able to read Lime Book Banded texts at a similar fluency rate. These children are also likely to be reading a range of longer, more challenging texts at home too.

Resources to support your child with their reading can be downloaded below.

The resources on this web page include some useful videos that show you how your child is taught reading; they should help you feel more confident about supporting your child's reading at home.  There are also some additional resources that will help you support your child with saying their sounds and writing their letters.

Please click on the Books coming home tab and watch the video.
