Headlands curriculum and planning
Our aim is to provide an exciting, ambitious and engaging curriculum that inspires and challenges all learners and provides them with the knowledge they need to take advantage of opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
We follow the basic curriculum, which includes national curriculum, religious education, relationships education and health education.
The National Curriculum sets out requirements for: English, mathematics, science, physical education, computing, art and design, design and technology, geography, history and music. Languages is taught in Key Stage 2.
In Early Years we follow the DfEs statutory early years foundation stage framework.
We have a broad and rich curriculum across the school and this is planned across two years: Year A and Year B. In 2022/23 we are following our Year A curriculum.
The ‘Overview of topics/ themes units of work’ maps out our topics across the two years and identifies whole school themes and events.
This is broken down further in our Year A and Year B Long Term and Medium Term Plans for each phase. Each subject has also been carefully planned and sequenced to ensure progression of skills and knowledge across the year groups.
We promote spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development of our pupils, and prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
When required remote education is swiftly implemented and is well integrated within the courses of study and designed to support the wider implementation of the school’s curriculum.
The length of the school week for EYFS and KS1 is 32 hours 30 minutes per week and 32 hours 55 minutes in KS2.
